Inside Travel Writing: An interview with Hilary Bradt

Essens Lake at Bon Echo Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada.

Inside Travel Writing: An interview with John Zada

Travel writers should occasionally self-fund trips they really want to do on their own terms, rather than constantly relying on press trips to generate stories. You do your best work when you are completely inspired and free to do as, and go where, you please — without a set plan. Doing those kinds of trips, even if you don’t have a work commission beforehand, is hugely rewarding.

Inside Travel Writing: An interview with Geoff Moore

I first visited Fregate Island when it was a very basic destination with small hotels and guest houses, and the island was very natural.
I visited a few years ago and it was then one of the most select private destinations in the world. You get your own butler, solar powered golf cart and a choice of 20 different pillows just for starters. I had three wonderful days there.

It has unique wildlife as well as seven beaches to choose from.

A burst of sunshine beneath monsoon season clouds.

Inside Travel Writing: An interview with Lea Lane

I live in Miami now but I return to New York or Paris whenever possible. Some of my favourite places — because they have just about everything a traveler could want — include Morocco, New Zealand, Italy.

Everybody seems to write about their trips on social media, usually for free. You have to find a way to get noticed, and do things better than most. And keep your day job. Making a good living, aside from the travel ops, is difficult.
